National Quality Agencies meeting with the President of YÖKAK

Beginning his duty as the Chairman of the Higher Education Quality Board, Prof. Dr. Ümit Kocabıçak and representatives of the national accreditation agency held a meeting.

The Chairman of the Higher Education Council (YOKAK) Prof. Dr. Ümit Kocabıçak, the President of the national accreditation institution (YÖKAK). The visit, which took place on July 17, 2023, was attended by V. Prof. Dr. Fatih Keskin, the representative of İLAD and Dean of Ankara University Faculty of Communication. During the discussion, President Kocabıçak emphasized that to date, there have been over 1300 accredited programs, but only 132 of them bear the TQF logo.

One of the significant concerns raised during the meeting was the observation that 90 percent of the accredited programs lacked the TQF logo, which is deemed crucial for safeguarding the interests of universities. This discrepancy was found to be primarily due to universities' failure to complete the VQA forms and submit data accurately.

Among the topics discussed during the meeting were the Turkish Qualifications Framework (TYÇ) database, in which YÖKAK holds a stake as a quality assurance entity, the issuance of graduation certificates with the TQF logo, and an exchange of ideas regarding the challenges faced by the National Quality Agencies. The importance and necessity of adhering to the European Qualifications Framework were also underscored.

Looking ahead, the managers of the National Quality Agencies, along with President of YÖKAK, Prof. Dr. have scheduled a more comprehensive meeting with Ümit Kocabıçak in September to delve further into these matters.
