Stakeholder Meeting of YÖKAK and National Accreditation Agencies
The Council of Higher Education Quality Assurance (YÖKAK) organized a stakeholder meeting with representatives from national accreditation agencies that conduct program evaluations. The meeting, held online on August 28, 2024, focused on YÖKAK’s recommendations for increasing the number of accredited programs, financial issues, and solutions to challenges encountered during the program accreditation process.
YÖKAK President Prof. Dr. Ümit Kocabıçak provided a general overview of higher education institutions' program accreditation processes, addressing monitoring procedures of accreditation agencies, the role of student evaluators, and international memberships. Prof. Dr. Kocabıçak noted that only 181 out of the 441 different program types listed in the 2024 Higher Education Programs and Quotas Guide were eligible for accreditation by national accreditation agencies, emphasizing the need to increase this number in the coming years.
Representatives from the national accreditation agencies shared their views and suggestions, discussing ongoing issues and potential solutions related to field visits and various practices in the accreditation process.
The stakeholder meeting, attended by representatives from national accreditation agencies, included participation from İLAD President Prof. Dr. Aysel Aziz, İLAD Secretary General Füsun Özbilgen, and İLEDAK President Prof. Dr. Recep Tayfun.
