At the stakeholder meeting attended by representatives from national accreditation organizations, ILAD President Prof. Dr. Aysel Aziz, ILAD General Secretary Füsun Özbilgen, and İLEDAK President Prof. Dr. Recep Tayfun were present. During the meeting, challenges, risks, and opportunities encountered in the accreditation process for programs in higher education institutions were evaluated.
In his presentation, the President of YÖKAK shared information about the number of accredited programs at each university and also shared a list of universities where no programs have been accredited yet. He emphasized that institutional accreditation alone is not sufficient in universities, highlighting the importance of program accreditation and the need to rapidly increase the number of accredited programs.
The 17 national accreditation organizations authorized by YÖKAK have accredited a total of 1034 programs to date. However, the number of accredited programs accounts for only about 13% of the existing 8309 programs. In order to increase this ratio and the number of programs undergoing quality assessment rapidly, the President of YÖKAK, Prof. Dr. Ümit Kocabıçak, solicited the views of representatives from national accreditation organizations. He also mentioned that he had a separate meeting with universities to explain the necessity of program accreditation.
